From a wooden shed

In the early 70s, from a wooden shed deep in rural Surrey, a handful of engineers and mechanics, led by Ken Tyrrell (picture-above) conceived and built racing cars that conquered the Nürburgring, Monaco and Watkins Glen… in the very capable hands of Jackie Stewart and François Cevert.

The humble birthplace of Ken Tyrrell’s first Formula 1 Grand Prix winning machines, is the stuff of legend. It has now been dismantled and moved to Goodwood (picture-below), a rescue mission that saves the historic shed from the threat of demolition.

Five years after Tyrrell entered its first world championship Grand Prix, taking on the mighty Ferrari and Lotus teams, it won the constructors’ title. “That was a big deal,” Stewart told Motor Sport in 2022, “and all the more so when you consider the team was run from a shed.”
