Stewart shines in Can-Am too
At the 1971 Can-Am Challenge Cup held at Watkins Glen International race track, Jacky Stewart claimed pole position in his Carl Haas-entered Lola. At the time, anyone who out-qualified the works McLarens of Hulme and Revson, did an amazing job, but to do it in the tricky Lola T260 was outstanding. Well done, Jackie Stewart!

The race was won by American Peter Revson, well ahead of his McLaren team mate New-Zealander Denny Hulme and Swiss Jo Siffert in his STP-Jo Siffert Porsche 917/10. Pole-sitter Jackie Stewart (Lola), retired on lap 56 with a broken gearbox, but was going to win, by the end of the year, his second F1 drivers’ championship with Tyrrell.
