Daytona sunset
François Cevert at the wheel of the Matra MS670 that he shares with Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Henri Pescarolo at the 1973 24 Hours of Daytona (picture-above). Only one sports-prototype Matra is entered, with the objective to prepare for Le Mans and eventually try to beat a great number of Porsches, Ferraris and Corvettes.
This Matra MS670, here-below at the fuel-station, was going to retire after 267 laps, but will take its revenge in June with victory at Le Mans for Pescarolo and Larrousse. Here in Florida, its the Brumos Porsche 911 Carrera RSR of Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood that prevails and takes the checkered flag with an advantage of 22 laps (!) on the N.A.R.T Ferrari 365 GTB/4 driven by François Migault and Milt Minter, the winners in Grand Touring +2000 Class.
