The Porsche 956 was a Groupe C sports-prototype racing car designed by Norbert Singer (picture-below) and built in 1982 for the FIA World Sportscar Championship. It was powered by a 2.65 litre Porsche Type-935 turbocharged Flat-6, had a five-speed manual gearbox and an aluminium monocoque that helped reaching the minimum weight of 800 kg.

In total, twenty-eight 956s would be built by Porsche from 1982 to 1984, with an unofficial 29th chassis built from spare parts by Richard Lloyd Racing. The 956 was also the first Porsche to have ground effect aerodynamics. As a comparison, it produced three times as much downforce than the legendary Porsche 917 that raced over a decade earlier.
