François Cevert gives a ride to Howden Ganley, who seems to enjoy it, on top of his Tyrrell 006-Ford at the end of the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix held at Circuit Zandvoort (picture-above). Cevert has just crossed the line in second behind team mate Stewart, while Ganley was forced to retire with mechanical issues on his Iso-Marlboro-Ford, four laps from the end, but is still classified in ninth. The two drivers know each other well; they were team mates at Matra in endurance racing.

Howden Ganley, born in 1941, is a former racing driver from New-Zealand who participated in 41 Formula One Grand Prix between 1971 and 1974 for the BRM, Iso-Marlboro, March and Maki teams. He placed 4th twice and scored points 5 times for a total of 10 championship points. He was a solid endurance driver and finished second overall (with François Cevert) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972, driving a Matra MS670 (picture-below).
