Alan Jones

Alan Jones was an excellent, tough, fast and outspoken  Australian racing driver born in Melbourne. He was non-political and straightforward, much to the liking of his bosses, Frank Williams and Patrick Head. Jones was the first driver to win a Formula 1 World Championship for the Williams team, becoming the 1980 World F1 Champion.

He competed in 117 Grand Prix, winning 12 and achieving 24 podium finishes. Jones won the Can-Am championship in 1978, driving a Carl Haas entered Lola.

Alan Jones is also the last Australian driver to win the Australian Grand Prix, winning the 1980 non-championship event at Calder Park Raceway, having lapped the field consisting mostly of Formula 5000 cars, while he was driving his F1 Championship winning Williams FW07B.

In Formula 1, drove for Hesketh (privateer), Hill, Surtees, Shadow, Williams, Arrows, Haas Lola.
