At the 1981 Brazilian Formula 1 Grand Prix, Carlos Reutemann did not obey Williams’ instructions, shown to him on a very explicit sign held by sporting director Charlie Crichton-Stuart (picture above), that ordered him to let his team mate Alan Jones, the reigning World Champion, win the race.
After the race, the Argentinian driver proudly raised the said sign as a rebellious gesture towards his team: if Frank Williams preferred to turn his back at him, journalist Eric Bhat of “Grand Prix International” (left on the picture here-under) was all smiles next to the winner! The British team made him dearly pay this attitude at the end of the season in Las Vegas, where the Drivers’ title eluded him at the very last moment…
