Wolf allowed to test at Ferrari!
Enzo Ferrari and the Wolf Formula One team, including team manager Peter Warr (second from left), chief engineer Harvey Postlethwaite (next to Warr) and their driver Jody Scheckter, pose for a photo end of 1977 in front of Ferrari’s house, next to the Fiorano test track.
Team owner Walter Wolf remembers: “Do you know that my team was at that time the only F1 team to be allowed to run at the Fiorano test track apart from Ferrari? When we were running Jody (Scheckter), the Old Man invited us to take a car down there to test. Of course, the reason was he wanted to take a look at Jody. A month or so later he signed him and Jody went on to win the championship in 1979 for him straight off. The Old Man was smart, behind those dark glasses you never knew what he was thinking. Most guys that smart don’t live to be 90 years old.”
Jody Scheckter and his Harvey Postlethwaite-designed Wolf WR1 (picture-below) had indeed impressed during the 1977 Formula One season, taking three wins, six podiums and finishing fourth in the final standings.
