Unusual: Yes, this is Jody Scheckter, a Tyrrell driver in Formula 1 at the time, who drove the Alfa Romeo T33/TT/12 (with Jochen Mass) at the 1975 1000 kms of the Nürburgring (picture above).

Willi Kaushen had found a German sponsor for one car and for this race only. The leading car being in Campari livery, he had the means to pay the excellent Scheckter and the fast and popular Mass to drive the second car.

The two works Alfa Romeo’s of Merzario-Laffite and Scheckter- Mass, entered by the Willi Kaushen Racing Team were the clear favourites and their main opposition came from two Mirages GR7-Cosworth of Ganley-Schenken and Watson-Pryce, entered by Georg Loos’ Gelo Racing, and multiple privately entered Porsches 908/3.

The race was won by Merzario and Laffite in their Alfa Romeo T33/TT/12 (picture below, Merzario at the wheel), they crossed the finishing line with a 40 seconds advantage on the Mirage of Ganley and Schenken. The second Alfa Romeo of Mass and Scheckter finished in sixth position, two laps down.
