Two wings for the 312

In 1969, all Formula 1 teams were experimenting with all kinds of wings on their cars, positioned higher or lower, above the front or rear wheel axles, with the aim of generating the most aerodynamic downforce.

Scuderia Ferrari was no exception, and even tested a 312-69 equipped with two wings, and Chris Amon at the wheel, in December 1969 at the Modena Autodrome (photo above). This test was inconclusive, and the 312-70 did not adopt this solution.

1969 was a disastrous year for Ferrari in F1, as they scored only seven points in the championship. The Scuderia fielded only one driver in most races, and Chris Amon did well to finish third in the Dutch Grand Prix, the best result of a season to forget (photo below).

Chris Amon, ever so unlucky, then made the mistake to leave Ferrari for March, missed out on the Scuderia’s great progress, four wins in 1970, and was never going to win a championship F1 Grand Prix.
