Rupert Keegan won the 1976 British Formula 3 Championship, which propelled him into Formula One. He participated in 37 Grand Prix, debuting in May 1977 at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Fast on his day, he was unlucky to always drive for teams that were struggling at the time, such as Hesketh, Surtees, RAM and March.

After difficult seasons with Hesketh and Surtees in 1977 and 1978, he won the Aurora Formula One Championship in 1979. The next seasons, a return to F1 with RAM driving their old Williams FW07B yielded little results.

After Formula One, Keegan raced in the US in the CART championship and also in endurance racing, before retiring from racing to pursue business interests.

He is seen (picture above) driving his Hesketh 308E in the streets of Monaco in 1977. Note the striking Penthouse livery. Something quite difficult to imagine nowadays.
