Number 2

The new short-wheelbase Tyrrell 006 wasn’t satisfying Jackie Stewart in the fall of 1972, so François Cevert debuted it at the Canadian Grand Prix at Mosport. The Scotsman would nevertheless take the wheel in practice (photo above), bearing the number 2 and his teammate’s name!

But it was in the Tyrrell 005 that Stewart won the race the following day and then in the USA two weeks later (photo below), two successes insufficient to deprive Emerson Fittipaldi of his first world title at the end of a season which had seen Jackie miss some Grands Prix to treat a stomach ulcer, no doubt caused by the stress of an overly intense schedule between F1 and the Can-Am series in North America.
