At the 1973 South African Grand Prix, Motor Racing Developments Ltd. were represented by their South American pairing of Carlos Reutemann and Wilson Fittipaldi and, with the new Brabham BT42 unfinished, they had to rely on the one year old BT37’s (picture above).
Reutemann finished 7th, two laps down on winner Jackie Stewart (Tyrrell) and team mate Fittipaldi (brother of Emerson) was forced to retire with engine problems.
The race was won by Jackie Stewart driving a Tyrrell. Denny Hulme’s (the 1967 World Champion) pole position, in the new McLaren M23, was the only one of his entire Formula One World Championship career! (picture below).
