The 47th Indianapolis 500 was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, on May 30, 1963. The race was won from pole position by Parnelli Jones In a J.C Agajanian-entered Watson-Offenhauser. It will be his only victory on the famous Brickyard. Rookie of the Year, was young Scot Jim Clark, who finished second in a Lotus.

Picture above: Jim Clark at the 1963 Indy 500, next to his Lotus, where he started 5th and finished 2nd. Jim earned Rookie of the Year honours after leading 28 laps for his debut in Indiana. This Lotus was the first rear engine car to finish in the top 5 in the Indy 500.
