Spa, 14 June 1964. From left to right: Jo Bonnier, Innes Ireland (focused on his cigarette), Phil Hill, Chris Amon, Jim Clark, Richie Ginther, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, Dan Gurney and Bruce McLaren, listen carefully at the race directors’ last instructions during the drivers’ briefing, minutes before the start of the 1964 Belgian Grand Prix.
Dan Gurney took pole position in his Brabham-Climax, but Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax) gained a surprise victory, when Gurney ran out of fuel while leading most of the race, then Graham Hill (BRM) retired while leading with two laps to go. This was Clark’s third consecutive victory in the Belgian Ardennes.
