Indianapolis 1965. It was definitely Jim Clark’s year, with a convincing victory for Team Lotus, and a total of 190 laps led.
The “British Invasion” as the Americans called it, finally broke through as Jim Clark and Colin Chapman triumphed with the first rear-engined Indy-winning car, a Lotus 38 powered by Ford.
Young Mario Andretti (picture above), driving his Hawk-Ford, was very at ease for his first ever visit of the Brickyard, ran no lower than 6th all day and finally came home third, won the Rookie of the Year award.
