The 98th Indianapolis 500 was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on 25 May 2014. Local boy Ed Carpenter took pole position at 231.067 mph (371.866 km/h), his second consecutive pole at Indy.

It was a thrilling race. After going into the grass on the backstretch to gain position, American Ryan Hunter-Reay was able to hold off Hélio Castroneves by a few feet and 0.060 seconds (picture above), to take a great victory for Andretti Autosport, in these 2014 Indy 500.

At an average speed of 186.563 mph (300.244 km/h), it was the second-fastest 500 in history. Marco Andretti, Carlos Muñoz, and Juan Pablo Montoya rounded up the top 5.
