The first IndyCar Lotus-Ford appeared at the 200 Miles of Milwaukee in 1963, in the hands of Jim Clark and Dan Gurney: the marque with the oval logo became hereby involved, for the first time, in single seaters in this American competition, with a V8 engine of 4.2 litres.

Clark was then going to win the 500 Miles of Indianapolis in a Lotus 38 two years later, and then Ford decided to finance the Formula OneV8 Cosworth project (designed by Keith Duckworth), with the enormous success we all know. At the same time Formula Ford was born; these small single seaters with a Kent 1600 cc engine, that will promote young drivers all around the world during 30 years (picture below).
