There was still a lot of guess work concerning the multiple fixing points of the wings at the start of the 1969 season: in the picture above at Kyalami, we recognize Jack Brabham talking to Goodyears’ Leo Mehl and his chief mechanic Ron Dennis busy on the left rear tire.

A few weeks later, at Montjuich, these particular foldable wings will suffer (picture below, the other Brabham BT26 of Jacky Ickx) and the accidents of the two Lotus’ lead to the ban of these (much too highly placed) aerodynamic elements…
