For the 1977 season, Ferrari opted to continue with the now fully recovered Niki Lauda and have Argentinian Carlos Reutemann (picture above) replacing Clay Regazzoni, who moved on to the Ensign team.
In the first two races of the season, Reutemann finished third in Argentina and scored a superb win in Brazil, outdriving Lauda and taking the Championship lead. Most observers thought Reutemann had the upper hand.
Over the course of the season however, Lauda (picture here-under) reaffirmed his position as a team leader, setting up his car to the perfection, and the Austrian sensationally won his second Championship, while Reutemann finished fourth and did not win another race that year.
