Ferrari were completely eclipsed in 1962, partly as a result of internal upheavals, partly because the British teams had made great progress. BRM finally came good with Graham Hill (picture above) winning the championship after a season long battle with the revolutionary monocoque Lotus 25 driven by Jim Clark. Hill triumphed four times, against three victories only for his Scottish rival.

The winning 1962 BRM P57 (picture below), designed by Tony Rudd, and entered by Owen Racing Organisation, had a space-frame chassis, was powered by the Coventry Climax 1496cc V8 naturally aspired mid-engine, longitudinally mounted, and had a BRM 6 speed Colotti gearbox. A beautiful single-seater indeed.
