Days after clinching the 2016 world drivers’ title in Abu Dhabi, Nico Rosberg announced, to the surprise of all, his retirement from the sport.

He declared: “Since 25 years of racing, it has been my dream, my ‘one thing’, to become Formula One world champion. Through the hard work, the pain, the sacrifices, this has been my target. And now I’ve made it. I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right.”

Nico Rosberg left the sport on a high, with 23 Grand Prix wins, 57 podiums, 30 pole positions and 1594.5 career points.

Respect, champion.
