Max passes on the outside!
The 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix was held on 13 November 2016 at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace, in São Paolo, Brazil. Mercedes was dominant, and Lewis Hamilton took pole position, in front of his team mate Nico Rosberg. Young (19) Max Verstappen was fourth on the grid in a Red Bull, and was going to again, impress in the race.
Picture above: The track was very wet at the start, and Verstappen was brilliant in these conditions. He soon passed Raikkonen (Ferrari) and decided to attack and pass Rosberg on the outside, in a very daring move.
Max Verstappen is unsure if he would try an overtake like Brazil 2016 on Nico Rosberg today: “Looking back, I probably had less fear at the time. I didn’t really look at what could happen to it. I probably would’t do the same move now, but it also depends on the position in the championship. At the time, I had nothing to lose and I did it.”
Verstappen concludes: “And I have to say that looking for grip elsewhere for me is a typical move – especially if the whole weekend has been dry, you go to the race and it’s wet and you try different things.”
