J.J. Lehto

Excellent Finnish driver who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, in 1995 and 2005.

He is also a former Formula One driver who drove for : Onyx, Scuderia Italia, Sauber and Benetton.

He was a protégé of Keke Rosberg, and won the British Formula 3 championship in 1988, driving for the Pacific Team.

Lehto, marked by many as a star of the future, moved to F1 in 1989, drove for Onyx first and in 1991 moved to Scuderia Italia and stayed there two seasons.

In the wet San Marino Grand Prix, he impressed many by lasting a race of attrition to finish 3rd, scoring his first F1 points.

He then moved to the new Sauber team for 1993 and scored a good 4th place at Imola despite engine problems.

For the 1994 season he landed the second seat at Benetton alongside Michael Schumacher but injured his neck in testing the new B194.

He struggled all year with these neck injuries and was not retained for 1995.

He left F1 and first drove in the DTM and found success again in endurance racing both in Europe and in the USA (ALMS series).
