Victorious debut
The Ueno Clinic McLaren F1 GTR of Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya and J.J. Lehto (winners) is followed closely by the Gulf Racing McLaren F1 GTR driven by Mark Blundell, Ray Bellm and Maurizio Sandro Sala (fourth overall) during the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours (picture-above).
McLaren entered the history books in 1995 having become one of only three makes to win the Le Mans 24 Hours at its first attempt – Ferrari had accomplished the same feat with its two cars in 1949 . It was also the last road-based supercar to win at Le Mans.
This was the first Le Mans win for a driver from Finland, J.J. Lehto who drove fantastic stints in the night, and for a driver from Japan (Sekiya). For Dalmas, it was already the third of his four Le Mans victories. 1995, a legendary edition of the great race, indeed.
