When Romain Grosjean walked away from the burning wreck of his Haas, we all had a sigh of relief and are now so happy that the French driver escaped this horrible crash with only minor injuries. In other times, the story would have ended differently, and we can only praise the efforts of the FIA to always seek improvements in drivers’ safety.

That said, we should not be shy in pointing out the many crashes caused by Grosjean in his career and the heavy responsibility he bares in this one that luckily didn’t cost him his life.

As well explained by Martin Brundle on Sky Sports: “Grosjean saw an opportunity ahead of him as he instinctively tried to pass cars in front of him, and suddenly moved to the far right. It was a dramatic and dangerous move across the track which unfortunately contained the front wheel of Daniil Kvyat’s AlphaTauri. Now the Haas was spearing about right as Kvyat was swearing about him on the radio. Until he saw a fireball in his mirrors.”

Daniil Kvyat recalls: “First I was very angry with him (Grosjean) because he came right across like that. You don’t do this. This is dangerous driving. But then I was immediately scared for him at the same time because I saw the flames and I was just hoping he was okay, to be honest.”

In most media Grosjean is now hailed as a hero, and again we are relieved he’s fine, but his driving at the start of the Bahrain Grand Prix was nothing less than reckless and dangerous for him and for the other drivers.

But what a relief, happy to see you alive, Romain.
