In 1967, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was considered as “the race of the century”, because of the duel opposing Ford and Ferrari, but the fight was also on for the places of honour in the inferior categories.

On this document, the Alpine A210 of Mauro Bianchi/Jean Vinatier leads a small groupe at Arnage, composed of the NART Ferrari 365 P2, driven by Ricardo Rodriguez-Cavanos (not the late Ricardo Rodriguez), partnered with Chuck Parsons, and followed by the Porsches 907 LH of Jo Siffert/Hans Herrmann and Jochen Rindt/Gerhard Mitter.

Only two of these cars will see the finishing line : the Porsche of Siffert/Herrmann in a brilliant fifth position, and winner of the 2-litre class, while the Alpine will finish in 13th, while winning the 1600cc class.

As seen on the picture above, the NART Ferrari 365 P2 was white (picture below) and had a long tail mounted, to improve top speed: it was nicknamed “the white elephant” (see rear spoiler), but suffered and accident after 4 hours and was forced to retire.
