Unusual. At the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix run at the Mount Fuji race track (picture above), during practice Jody Scheckter tried to run both wet and slick tires at the front of his six-wheeler Tyrrell P34. He qualified fifth, but was forced to retire in the race.
Earlier in the season at Zolder in Belgium, Jody struggled initially, not being able to see which front wheel was locking under braking (picture below). Derek Gardner, designer of this very particular car, with smaller wheels at the front, then added plexi windows on the cockpit sides.
The South-African finished 4th in this 1976 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder in his Tyrrell P34, the first time a 6-wheeled car scored points in a Formula 1 championship.
