In 1985, Alain Prost finally cliched his first the World Drivers’ Championship, after coming very close in 1983 and 1984. The French driver took 5 victories and 6 podium finishes on his way to a very deserved first crown.
Niki Lauda, his team mate at McLaren, could not successfully defend his 1984 title, his French team mate was definitely quicker, and reliability was not perfect for the great Austrian who took one last victory at Zandvoort (picture above), before retiring from the sport. The World Championship for Manufacturers was won by McLaren for the second consecutive year.
