The Martini boys. That’s how Dutch ace Gijs van Lennep used to proudly call the 6 drivers competing in the 3 Martini Racing entered Porsches, at the 1970 9 Hours of Kyalami.

Indeed, two Porsche 908/02 were entered by the Martini Racing for Helmut Marko -Rudy Lins (#5) and for Gijs van Lennep-Gérard Larrousse (#6). And one 917K (far right on the picture above) was fielded for Jo Siffert and Kurt Ahrens Jr.

Nobody could stop the works Ferrari 512M of Jacky Ickx and Ignazio Giunti (picture below) who won the race, one lap ahead of the Porsche 917K of Siffert/Ahrens Jr. It is the only overall victory for a 512M. The 908’s of Marko/Lins finished in third position and winners of the Groupe 6 class, followed in 4th, by the sister car of Larrousse/van Lennep. A good showing indeed, for the “Martini boys”.
