Double “snorkel” or not?

Gérard Larrousse doesn’t seem convinced (picture-above) the double “snorkel” airboxes fitted on top of the Martini Porsche 917K he shares with Vic Elford, are the right solution for better top speed, ahead of the 1971 Monza 1000 km.
In the race, both Martini International Racing Team Porsche 917K’s driven by Elford/Larrousse and Marko/van Lennep will be halted by throttle linkage problems and victory will go to “the enemy”: J.W. Automotive whose Gulf 917K’s, without the double snorkel, driven by Rodriguez/Oliver and Siffert/Bell (picture-below by Ercole Colombo) will score a prestigious 1-2 for the German marque.
