Charming encounter for the driver of this orange Fiat (picture above) on his way to the 1972 Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix held on the famous ‘Autodromo di Monza’.

Before the race, the Monza circuit was modified with the addition of two chicanes, one before the Curva Grande and one at the site of the Old Curva Vialone, in order to reduce speeds in the interest of safety.

The 55-lap race was won by Brazilian driver Emerson Fittipaldi, driving a Lotus 72-Ford, after he started from sixth position. With this win, Fittipaldi sealed the Drivers’ Championship, becoming the youngest ever champion at 25 years and 273 days. Lotus secured the Manufacturers’ Cup.

Superb race for Englishman Mike Hailwood (picture below) who finished second in his Surtees TS9B-Ford, the best result of his F1 career.
