During practice for the Eifelrennen in the spring of 1967, the South loop of the Nürburgring (7,747 km), was covered with snow when the participants took the track, lead by the brave John Surtees in the Lola T100-BMW.

Big John will finish the race in second position behind the “King of Formula 2” Jochen Rindt (Brabham BT23) and the young Jacky Ickx (Matra MS5), future European Formula 2 champion.

Ickx would catch the attention of all in August on the long Nürburgring (the 22 km Nordschleife), during the F1 German Grand Prix, where he shone at the wheel of the… Formula 2 Matra MS7 (picture here under), posting the third best time in practice, behind Clark and Hulme. He had to retire from the race with a broken suspension while driving in 4th position, in the middle of F1 cars!
