After one Grand Prix start only at Watkins Glen in a Cooper in 1962, the young American hopeful Timmy Mayer had decided to try his luck in Europe in 1963, and race in Formula 3 (picture-above) with his fellow American Peter Revson, in a team managed by his brother Teddy Mayer, futur partner of Bruce McLaren in Formula 1.

Sadly, at the age of 26 only, he was killed in a race at Longford in New-Zealand early 1964, when his Cooper, tuned by the young mechanic Tyler Alexander (picture-below), hit a tree at high speed and disintegrated under the shock.
