Something odd happened

At the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona, something odd happened. Williams won a Grand Prix (it’s been since the 2004 Brazilian Grand Prix). Odder still, the winning driver was Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado.

Respect for team and driver, merely saying it was a big surprise.

Maldonado known as a quick but accident prone driver, drove faultlessly and won on merit, from P1 on the grid, after Hamilton’s pole had been discounted. He held off none other than Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari (picture below), arguably costing him that day the 2012 title (the Spaniard lost the title to Vettel for 3 points).

Fernando Alonso declared: “I was racing behind him without finding a gap for 30 laps and expected him to, at some point, make a mistake, but it never happened.”
