For the 1977 season, Ronnie Peterson joined Ken Tyrrell and team mate Patrick Depailler, who believed in the Tyrrell P34 with its six wheels concept. The Frenchman had spent the whole of the 1976 season developing this revolutionary concept.

Unfortunately, the car did not bring the aerodynamic advantage one could expect and both drivers struggled.

Best result of the season for the fast swede was a 3rd place at his home Grand Prix in Anderstorp.
