Porsches in the pitlane
Porsches aligned in the pitlane at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. From left to right: the #19 JW Automotive Engineering Porsche 917K of Richard Attwood and Herbert Muller that will finish second, then the #18 JWA Porsche 917LH of Pedro Rodriguez and Jackie Oliver (DNF), the #17 JWA Porsche 917LH driven by Jo Siffert and Derek Bell (DNF) and finally the Porsche 908/2 entered by Haldi Racing Team of Switzerland and driven by Claude Haldi and Hans-Dieter Weigel (DNF)
Although there were few accidents in this 1971 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, there were many cars delayed or forced to retire with mechanical problems and only twelve cars were classified at the finish. Winners, at a record speed of 222 km/h average were Gijs van Lennep and Helmut Marko in their Team Martini Porsche 917K (picture-below).
