Lewis and the rookies
When Lewis Hamilton made his F1 debut for McLaren-Mercedes in March 2007 (picture-above), Franco Colapinto was 3 years old and Oliver Bearman was 1 year old. Hamilton, after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where these rookies were impressive, praised their work and remembered his own debuts:
“I remember so well when I first got into Formula 1, I didn’t get a warm welcome from anyone except Niki (Lauda). I remember what it was like being so young, having that experience and how tough it is. I wanted to be different from those who were there when I was younger.”
And impressive they were, Bearman and Colapinto (picture-below), and although it’s unlikely they will match Lewis’ stratospheric achievements in F1, for sure they have what it takes to shine at the pinnacle of our sport.
