Swede Ronnie Peterson made quite an impression when he won the 1969 Formula 3 Monaco Grand Prix and later that year when he convincingly won the European F3 Championship.
His performances enabled him to move up into Formula One in 1970, racing first for the works-supported Colin Crabbe Racing privateer team and then for the March factory team. In his three-year spell with the Max Mosley and Robin Herd led team, he took six podiums, most of which (5) were scored during the 1971 Formula One season (picture above) in which he also finished as runner-up to Scot Jackie Stewart (Tyrrell-Ford) in the Drivers’ Championship.
