The 1986 German Grand Prix was held at Hockenheim on 27 July 1986. The 45-lap race was won by Brazilian Nelson Piquet, driving a Williams-Honda. Compatriot Ayrton Senna was second in a Lotus-Renault, with Englishman Nigel Mansell third in the other Williams-Honda.
Keke Rosberg (McLaren-TAG) had qualified on pole, but ran out of fuel on the last lap and was classified fifth one lap down. He is seen here (picture above) riding on winner Nelson Piquet’s Williams back to the pits.
Just before the race, Keke Rosberg had announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season. It was the end of the Formula One journey for the 1982 World Champion.
