These happy days in Formula 2!  A fine selection of drivers seems to enjoy itself on the pit wall at the Donington round of the 1979 European Formula 2 championship.

From left to right you can recognize: Beppe Gabbiani and Divina Galica chatting with Brian Henton, then Stefan Johansson, Tiff Needell, Eje Elgh (in Marlboro overall) and Derek Warwick.

Journalist Pierre Van Vliet recalls: “I remember travelling to Donington with frenchman Patrick Gaillard, who had been called by Paul Owens, boss of Chevron, to replace Bobby Rahal (who could not attend the meeting having to attend a CanAm race in the US) and race the B48 in Ampex colors… Unfortunately, the car (picture below) was not competitive.”

The 65-lap race was won by Derek Daly in a Project Four Racing March 792. From the drivers seen on the picture above, Brian Henton (Toleman-Ralt) finished 4th, Eje Elgh (March) finished 5th and Divina Galica (March) finished 11th, two laps down.

A certain Eddie Jordan driving a March 792 finished 9th, a laps behind the winner. He will later become more successful as a team owner in Formula 1…
