Misano, in the golden years of the F2
Richard Dallest climbs out of his GPA-Motul AGS JH15 while Bernard de Dryver behind him is already out of his Bob Salisbury Racing March 782-BMW at the Misano round of the 1978 European Formula 2 championship (picture-above).
On the left, one can recognise Rad Dougall’s Toleman Group March 782-BMW parked in front of Alex Ribeiro’s red March 782-BMW, recognisable thanks to its ‘Cristo Salva’ stickers. And behind de Dryver, one can also find Eje Elgh’s Fred Opert Racing Chevron B42-Hart.
Mixed fortunes for the above-mentioned drivers: de Dryver and Elgh will fail to qualify in a 37-car field, while Dougall did not finish, Dallest ended in 16th and Ribeiro in 13th position.
Victory went to Bruno Giacomelli (picture-below), the new king of the F2, seemingly unbeatable in his works March 782-BMW during the 1978 season. He finished well ahead of his team mate Marc Surer and Elio de Angelis in his ICI Chevron B42-Hart.
