François Cevert, surrounded by his mechanics, is deep in discussion with Ken Tyrrell and Jackie Stewart, who can be seen to his left, before the 1973 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring (photo by Bernard Cahier, above).

The Tyrrell 006-Fords and their short wheelbase worked wonders on the 22-kilometer circuit, and Jackie Stewart took pole with a time of 7:07.8 seconds. He finished ahead of Ronnie Peterson in his Lotus 72 and François Cevert, a good third.

Note: Niki Lauda, fifth on the grid at the wheel of his BRM, was ahead of his teammates Beltoise and Regazzoni by more than eight seconds, but went off the track on the second lap of the race and broke his wrist, which caused him to miss the next Grand Prix in Austria, his home race.

Jackie Stewart won ahead of François Cevert with a substantial lead (41 seconds) over the returning Ickx (McLaren). For Stewart (picture-below), who was practically crowned for the third time, it was the 27th and final victory of his career, a record that would stand until 1987.
