The Ligier JS5 was designed by engineer Gérard Ducarouge assisted by Michel Beaujon and Robert Choulet (aerodynamics) and competed in the 1976 season. It was the first F1 car made by Ligier and was powered by the famous Matra V12 cylinder engine.
Jacques Laffite scored the team’s first points, with a great drive to fourth, as seen here-above at the US Grand Prix West, held on the street course of Long Beach, California. The car also gave its driver Laffite and the Ligier team their first ever pole position, note the low air scoop, at the 1976 Italian Grand Prix at the Monza Autodrómo (photo here-below).
