Philippe Streiff (picture above) won the 1980 European Formula 3 round held at Zolder in Belgium. The French driver, driving an Écurie Motul Nogaro Martini MK31-Toyota Novamotor, started from pole position and led from the start to the checkered flag.
He finished ahead of Philippe Alliot (on the right of the picture above) in an ORECA- entered Martini MK31-Toyota Novamotor, who started seventh, drove an aggressive race, and finish second just 3 seconds behind the winner.
Third was Michele Alboreto in a Euroracing March 803-Alfa Romeo, who had started alongside Streiff on the front row. Local favourite Thierry Boutsen suffered some engine issues, and could only manage to finish in sixth.
It was a hard-fought F3 championship for this series featuring a lot of genuine Formula One hopefuls in 1980. Finally, Michele Alboreto in his March (picture below in Monaco) prevailed, ahead of Thierry Boutsen (Martini) and Corrado Fabi (March). Alliot and Streiff, who shined at Zolder, finished fifth and sixth in the standings.
