When Jackie Stewart had a hard time getting around François Cevert in an F2 race at Crystal Palace in 1969, he told Ken Tyrrell to keep an eye on the young Frenchman.

Then Tyrrell driver Johnny Servoz-Gavin suddenly decided to retire from motor racing, three races into the 1970 F1 season, Tyrrell called upon Cevert to be his number two driver, alongside defending World Champion Stewart.

After making his debut at the 1970 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort in Tyrrell’s March 701 Ford, Cevert gradually increased his pace and earned his first World Championship point by finishing sixth in the 1970 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
