A watered first
The 2009 Chinese Formula One Grand Prix was held at the Shanghai International Circuit. Heading to the event, Jenson Button of Brawn Grand Prix led the Drivers’ Championship by 5 points over team-mate Rubens Barrichello. Nevertheless, Sebastian Vettel achieved his second career pole position – and the first for his Red Bull Racing team.
Vettel dominated the race held in very wet conditions: he stayed in the lead despite very treacherous conditions, taking his second Grand Prix victory – a year after his first triumph in Monza for Toro Rosso – and his first for Red Bull Racing. Historical: It was the first ever win for Red Bull as a constructor.
Perfect weekend for the team led by Christian Horner: Mark Webber achieved his best career result with second place, while Button got his third consecutive podium with third place (picture below).
To this day, Red Bull have won 95 F1 Grand Prix, in their comparatively short but successful history, the first of them 14 years ago thus, in Shanghai, in the wet in 2009, with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel of a Red Bull RB5 designed by Adrian Newey. A remarkable achievement.
