A Ferrari driver in a… Ford Capri!

For the 1974 season, Niki Lauda was signed by the Scuderia Ferrari to compete in the Formula 1 World Championship next to Clay Regazzoni. The Austrian soon showed his speed and class by winning the Spanish Grand Prix at Jarama and the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

Unthinkable nowadays, Enzo Ferrari allowed him to drive a… works Ford Capri RS 3100 alongside Jochen Mass in the 1000 km of the Nurburgring! Lauda and Mass had to retire when a wheel came loose. The race was won by Jean-Pierre Jarier and Jean-Pierre Beltoise in their Matra MS670C.

Picture below: Jochen Mass and Niki Lauda were again teamed up to drive one of the works Ford Capris 3100 RS in the 1974 6 Hours of the Nürburgring. They qualified in second position, but again had to retire. We nevertheless always enjoy watching these cars fly over the crests of this impressive track (picture below).
