At the 1974 South African Grand Prix, Bernie Ecclestone played poker with John J. Goossens, the representative of Texaco in Formula One, and his loss at the cards game meant a free sponsorship deal for the American petroleum company on the pretty Brabham BT44. A fair player, Mister E. applied the Texaco stickers himself on the cars’ bodywork (picture above).
As fortune smiles to the audacious, next day Carlos Reutemann took the first victory of his career for Brabham, with the Texaco logo, easily visible on his superb white car (picture below).
