Proud like Caesar
For Michele Alboreto, the 1982 season was a successful campaign. The Italian took the first podium of his F1 career at Imola and, at the final round in Las Vegas, Alboreto took his first Grand Prix win. This 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix was the sixteenth and last race of the 1982 Formula 1 season. It was held on… the parking lot of the Caesars’ Palace hotel!
Alboreto won the 78-lap race in his Tyrrell-Ford and scored Tyrrell’s first victory since Depailler won the Monaco Grand Prix, back in 1978. John Watson finished second in McLaren, with Eddie Cheever third in a Ligier-Matra. Keke Rosberg finished fifth in his Williams-Cosworth, that was enough to secure him the Drivers’ Championship. On the podium, the heroes of the day are congratulated by non other than singer Diana Ross!
